Introduction
You know the iconic building. Three towers with a ship parked on the roof, and an infinity pool that has sold more flights to Singapore than the tourism board has.
I've deliberately kept this review short and sweet, because I have a hard time understanding how anyone considers this a luxury experience. Luxury is supposed to feel personal. Here you feel like a number among roughly 3,000 guests a day, all spending thousands of dollars to take two pictures at the pool.
There's a recurring theme, and it's queues and people everywhere. Check-in took thirty minutes. There were queues for the lifts. Breakfast felt like a crowded Chinese buffet with grown adults fighting over the last sweet and sour chicken wings.

The Room
The room is the best part of the hotel after the renovation, a sanctuary detached from the craziness on the other side of the door. We stayed in the Premier Suite with Gardens by the Bay views and the hard product is pristine, with everything feeling brand new. The amenities are top notch: a separate living room with a 75-inch TV, Nespresso, Dyson hairdryer, Japanese smart toilet, Jo Loves toiletries, and the list goes on.

The Infinity Pool: WOO!
The reason you're here, and it's real. It's 146 metres of vanishing edge looking over the Singapore skyline, hotel guests only, and no, the paid observation deck ticket doesn't get you in. The pool is stunning and the views are incredible, especially at sunset.
If only you could have a moment to yourself to enjoy the scenery. By late afternoon this stops being a pool and becomes a content farm. Someone's boyfriend is on his fortieth attempt at the same shot while she adjusts the same hip by the same two centimetres. You can't swim a length without inevitably ramming into someone else's backside - awkward. There's an adults-only section, and the children treat it the way they treat bedtime, as an opening offer.

Service
This is where the whole thing falls apart. Every interaction is slow. Thirty minutes to check in. Twenty minutes to get a drink order taken at breakfast. I ordered ice from room service and it simply never came, which I've chosen to read as a statement of intent rather than an oversight. No welcome note or acknowledgement of any kind.
None of it is rude. It's that nobody here has to try. The rooms are selling at four times the opening rate whether the ice turns up or not, and you can feel that arithmetic in every exchange.
