Why Nusa Dua for a Family Trip?
Quick note if you're still deciding between Nusa Dua and other parts of Bali. Seminyak has great restaurants but rough surf that's dangerous for young swimmers. Canggu has an incredible cafe scene but terrible traffic and basically no sidewalks, you'd be walking your kids on the road. Ubud is beautiful but it's inland, no beaches, and getting around requires a driver.
Nusa Dua is the most popular family accommodation area in Bali, and for good reason:

1. Grand Hyatt Bali
Best for: Families with kids ages 3-12 who want a resort they'll never need to leave
The Grand Hyatt is the resort for kids in Nusa Dua. It's not trying to be a romantic couples retreat that also happens to have a kids club. This place was built for families.
The property sits on 41 acres (yes, really) with 636 rooms spread across four village-style clusters connected by winding garden paths. You'll find squirrels running around, geese wandering the grounds, and even the occasional goanna sunning itself. Kids absolutely love exploring the place, though fair warning, you will get lost at least once. Navigating the grounds can feel like an episode of Lost in Space. Golf carts are available if you've got tired little legs in the group.
The Pools
Five swimming pools, and the star of the show is the Garden River Pool. It's a lagoon-style pool surrounded by rocks and frangipani trees with two waterslides, one of them 50 meters long, that send you down a grassy hill into a separate splash pool. There's also a shallow lagoon pool that's perfect for toddlers, plus an adults-only pool at the Bay Club if the parents need a break.
The Kids Club (Oceania Kids Club)
This is genuinely one of the better kids clubs in Nusa Dua. It's open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, and runs for ages 3 to 12 with options for 2, 4, or 8 hour sessions. Activities include coconut leaf crafts, Balinese mask-making, cooking classes, kite flying, and even bunny feeding (they keep two rabbits on site). The catch? It's not free. You're looking at about $4 USD per hour, though guests on the all-inclusive package get 2 hours complimentary per day. For some families this is totally fine, for others it adds up quick over a week-long stay.
What You Actually Need to Know About Rooms
The standard rooms are a spacious 528 square feet with a king bed and a built-in daybed that comfortably sleeps up to two small children - no need to request a rollaway or pay for an extra bed. It's a small thing that makes a big difference for families on a budget, and it means even a standard room can work for a family of four without feeling cramped. The slight drawback of rooms at Grand Hyatt is the style might feel a little bit dated - this is common for Bali resorts built in the early 2000s. With such great pools I doubt you will find the need to stay in the rooms for long though!

Dining With Kids
Pasar Senggol is the highlight and honestly one of the coolest dining experiences in Nusa Dua period. It's an open-air Balinese night market with buffet stalls and live cultural performances including fire dance and Kecak Ramayana. Runs Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings from 6-9pm. Kids are mesmerized by the performances.
For something simpler, Watercourt does great Indonesian food surrounded by koi ponds. Salsa Verde is poolside Italian by day and transforms into a more romantic candlelit setup at night, so it's good for a date night if you use the babysitting service. Every restaurant has a kids menu with burgers, pizzas, pasta, fries - the usual suspects. Perfect for fussy eaters.
Fair warning though: restaurant service can be slow. During peak periods restaurants can be fully booked at dining times, so we recommend making advance reservations if there's a particular restaurant you want to dine at.
The Beach
700 meters of white sand beachfront with calm shallow water, beach chairs under the trees, a volleyball court, a giant chess set, and a dedicated beach playground for kids. It's one of the longest stretches of private beach in Nusa Dua. You might see some debris wash up during rainy season, but the hotel section is generally well maintained.

2. Conrad Bali
Best for: Families with young children (ages 3-8) who want a more relaxed, pool-focused resort with excellent value on suites
The Conrad sits in the Tanjung Benoa area, just north of the main Nusa Dua complex, spread across 6.8 hectares of tropical gardens and lagoons. It has a completely different energy from the Grand Hyatt: calmer, quieter, and more intimate. The whole property underwent a $25 million renovation in 2019, so everything from the rooms to the pools to the restaurants feels fresh and modern.
Those Lagoon Pools
This is the reason most families pick the Conrad. The lagoon pool system stretches 278 meters through the property, the longest lagoon-style pool in Bali, with man-made sand beach areas, shallow wading sections for little kids, a cubby house, swings, and a slide built right in. Pools are open 24 hours, and even at full occupancy you never feel like you're fighting for a lounger.
The Lagoon Access rooms let you walk straight from your deck into the pool, which is exactly as convenient as it sounds when you're traveling with kids. The little ones can play in the water right where you can see them from the room. Suite guests also get access to a dedicated Suites Pool that's quieter and less crowded.
Kids Club (Kura Kura)
Free for all hotel guests, runs 10am to 5pm daily, ages 3 to 12. The programming leans cultural, which is refreshing, Balinese dance workshops, puppet-making, cookie baking, treasure hunts, kite making, and jewellery crafting. The Room for Families: Conrad Family Suite
This is where the Conrad really stands out on value. The Conrad Suite Twin is 110 sqm with two queen beds, a separate living and dining area, walk-in wardrobe, and a marble bathroom with both a rain shower and deep soaking tub. There's sliding doors between the bedroom and living space, so once the kids are asleep you've still got your own area. The suites sit in the private luxury wing of the resort, with a dedicated pool for suite guests.

The Beach and Water Sports
The Conrad's beachfront is broad and well-maintained with large umbrellas and beach cabanas available for around $15 a day. The sheltered waters of Tanjung Benoa make it calm and safe for kids to splash around in.
But the real advantage of this location is water sports. Tanjung Benoa is Bali's water sports capital, and the Conrad puts you right in the middle of it. Parasailing, banana boats, jet skiing, kayaking, glass-bottom boat trips to Turtle Island, snorkelling, and even flyboarding, it's all available steps from the resort. For families with kids who want more than just pools and sand, this is a major draw that the other two resorts can't match.
Dining
Breakfast at Suku Restaurant is excellent, extensive international and Balinese buffet with a dedicated kids breakfast corner serving pancakes, waffles, doughnuts, French toast, and mini burgers. Kids under 12 eat free at breakfast, and get 50% discount for buffet lunches and dinner!
RIN Japanese Restaurant is worth a visit for families who like sushi and teppanyaki, and Saturday evenings at Suku feature a cultural dinner with traditional Balinese dance performances.

3. The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort
Best for: Families with teens or older kids who've outgrown kids clubs and just want great pools, a great beach, and a more grown-up atmosphere
The Laguna is the resort we recommend for families whose kids don't need a structured kids club anymore. It's got a more refined, adult energy than the Grand Hyatt or Conrad, which makes it a great fit for families with teenagers or mixed-age groups. After a massive renovation, the whole property feels fresh, modern and luxurious without losing its Balinese character.
The Pools
Seven lagoon-shaped pools covering over 5,000 square meters. The pools wind around the property with man-made sandy beaches, waterfalls, bridges, and little islands scattered throughout. There's a swim-up bar, floating sofas, a water volleyball court, and one pool specifically designated for children. The water stays warm enough for nighttime swimming too.
Good luck counting them though. They all connect and flow into each other in ways that make it hard to tell where one pool ends and the next begins. If your family lives in the pool on vacation, this is the resort.
No On-Site Kids Club (And That's Actually Fine)
The Laguna doesn't have its own dedicated kids club, which is exactly why it works so well for older kids and teens. There's no forced "fun zone" energy. Instead, your teenagers can spend the day exploring the lagoon pools, hitting the beach, trying water sports, or just hanging out at KulKul Beach House by the infinity pool. For younger kids tagging along, the neighboring Westin Resort (about 100 meters north) has a kids club that Laguna guests can access. The hotel also offers activities like batik painting, bracelet making, and Balinese dress-up experiences, and they often set up little tents and teddy bears in the room for smaller kids.
The Beach
This is where the Laguna really shines. Direct access to Mengiat Beach, which is widely considered one of the best beaches in Nusa Dua. Wide, clean, meticulously raked, with loungers, umbrellas, and thatched-roof gazebos with actual mattresses and flowing curtains. There's beach butler service and water sports available right on the sand.
One practical note: people tend to claim beach spots early by leaving towels, so if you sleep in you might have trouble finding a good spot. Get out there by 8am or ask the concierge for help.
Rooms
The post-renovation rooms are beautiful. Teak wood, earthy tones, woven textures, traditional Balinese design elements. Everything feels fresh and modern without losing character.
For families, here's how we'd rank the room types:
- Pool Villas (1 or 2 bedroom) if budget allows. Private pool, butler service. The two-bedroom villas are ideal for families.
- Lagoon Access Suites if you want the swim-out-from-your-room experience. Teens and kids alike love stepping straight into the pool from the deck.
- 1-Bedroom Suites for families needing space and separation
- Standard rooms are comfortably luxurious and fully renovated. Good size for a couple with one child, and the Balinese design details make them feel more special than your typical hotel room.
Dining
Breakfast at Banyubiru is a production. Six chef-manned stations, everything from Indonesian rice dishes to fresh sushi to made-to-order omelets, served both indoors and on a terrace overlooking the lagoon pools. It's easily one of the best hotel breakfasts in Bali.
Insider tip: go at 8am. By 9am the lines build up and service slows down noticeably.
Arwana won gold for Best Beachfront Restaurant in Bali and does an incredible Sunday Oceanic Brunch. They also have a candlelit table set directly in the sand that you can reserve in advance. That's a pretty solid date night option.
KulKul Beach House is the casual option. Pizzas, burgers, satay, nasi goreng, with its own infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Great for family lunches.
